Commercial Refrigeration FAQs
Answers to common questions about installation, maintenance and repair services.
Answers to common questions about installation, maintenance and repair services.
We work across the full range of commercial refrigeration equipment — walk-in cold rooms and freezer rooms, undercounter and upright refrigeration, blast chillers, display cases, bar and cellar cooling, and refrigerated preparation units. We also work on multi-zone systems and bespoke installations where standard equipment does not fit the brief.
We work with hospitality operators, food retailers, care homes, healthcare catering, food production and wholesale businesses, and licensed premises across Scotland and the North of England. If your operation depends on commercial refrigeration, we can help.
Yes. All work involving fluorinated greenhouse gases (F-gases) is carried out by F-Gas certified engineers in compliance with current UK F-Gas Regulations. All refrigerant handling is fully documented.
We work across all major brands in common use across UK hospitality and food retail, including Hoshizaki, Foster, Williams, True, Gram, Polar, Liebherr, Caravell, Interlevin, Mondial Elite and Blizzard. If your equipment is not listed, contact us — our engineers have broad diagnostic experience across commercial refrigeration systems.
Yes. We install, service and repair both refrigeration and freezer equipment across all commercial formats — from small undercounter units to large walk-in freezer rooms and blast freezers.
We aim to attend as quickly as possible. When you call, we take details of the equipment type, fault symptoms and your location so we can give you a realistic attendance estimate. For operators in Fife and the central belt, we are typically closer than most. Contact us directly by phone or WhatsApp for the fastest response to a breakdown.
Yes. Our engineers attend callouts with a stock of the most common commercial refrigeration replacement parts — compressor components, sensors, thermostats, door seals, fan motors and electrical components. This maximises the likelihood of resolving the fault on the first visit. Where a part is not immediately available, we advise on the fastest sourcing route and, where appropriate, recommend interim measures to protect stock.
Yes. Out-of-hours emergency callout cover is available. For urgent breakdowns outside standard office hours (Monday–Friday, 09:00–17:00), contact us by phone or WhatsApp on 07808 069685.
Yes, and we do so honestly. Where a unit is approaching end of life, has a history of repeated faults, or where repair cost represents a significant proportion of replacement value, we will give you a clear commercial assessment. We do not push the higher-cost option — we present the facts and let you decide.
We attend and repair compressor failures, refrigerant leaks, thermostat and sensor faults, fan motor and evaporator issues, door seal failure, electrical faults and control board problems. We work across all major equipment types and manufacturers.
Every maintenance visit includes a full system inspection, condenser and evaporator cleaning, refrigerant pressure checks and leak detection, thermostat calibration, door seal inspection, electrical checks, defrost cycle verification and a written service report. All documentation is produced in a format suitable for food safety records and environmental health inspection.
This depends on the intensity of use, the age and type of equipment, and your compliance requirements. High-usage operations — busy commercial kitchens, care homes and production facilities — typically benefit from quarterly visits. Most hospitality and retail operators opt for bi-annual contracts. Lower-intensity operations with newer equipment may be suited to annual servicing. We discuss the right frequency with each client during the initial assessment.
Yes. Written service reports produced at each visit form part of your food safety management records and support the due diligence evidence required under Food Standards Scotland requirements and HACCP-based systems. Records are maintained and copies provided on request for audits or insurance purposes.
Yes. Centro One maintenance contract customers receive priority scheduling on emergency callouts — meaning if a fault occurs between scheduled visits, your repair is treated as a priority over non-contract operators.
Yes. We structure maintenance programmes for both single-site operators and multi-site businesses requiring coordinated service schedules. Contact us to discuss your specific estate and we will put together a programme that fits your operation.
We manage the full process — site survey, system design and specification, equipment supply, mechanical and electrical installation, commissioning and handover. You receive a written specification and fixed quotation before any work begins, and full documentation at completion including operating instructions, maintenance requirements and warranty information.
Yes. We regularly work alongside main contractors and fit-out teams on new build and refurbishment projects, coordinating our installation schedule around the wider construction programme. The Antonietta bar installation in Edinburgh is a recent example of this — installation was managed around a live fit-out with commissioning completed prior to opening day.
Yes. Where standard catalogue solutions do not fit the brief — due to site constraints, aesthetic requirements or operational needs — we design and specify bespoke systems. This includes cold rooms with non-standard dimensions, multi-zone temperature systems and refrigeration integrated within designed hospitality or retail environments.
Incorrectly installed refrigeration affects food safety compliance, energy consumption, warranty validity and equipment longevity. Poorly specified or commissioned systems consume significantly more energy than correctly installed equivalents — a cost that compounds over years of operation. Most manufacturers also require installation by a competent engineer for warranty terms to apply.
Yes. We source and supply equipment through our supply chain as part of the installation package. Alternatively, if you have already sourced equipment, we can manage installation and commissioning only — contact us to discuss your specific situation.
Installation projects are priced on a fixed quotation basis following a site survey. We assess your site, operational requirements and brief before providing a written, itemised quotation. There are no surprises — you agree the cost before work begins.
Callouts are charged on a transparent basis — the engineer will advise you of the diagnosis, proposed repair and expected cost before any work proceeds. Parts and labour are itemised clearly. For contract customers, callout rates reflect the priority service arrangement within the contract terms.
Maintenance contract pricing depends on the number of units, equipment types, site location and service frequency. We assess your refrigeration estate and provide a clear, itemised contract quotation. Contact us to arrange an initial assessment — there is no obligation.
In most cases, yes — straightforwardly so. A single emergency callout for a compressor failure will typically cost more than an annual maintenance contract for the same unit. Add in the cost of stock loss from an overnight failure, regulatory exposure from a temperature excursion, and the energy savings from correctly maintained equipment, and the commercial case is clear. We are happy to discuss the specific numbers for your operation.
We are based in Cupar, Fife. We cover Scotland broadly — including Edinburgh, Dundee, Perth, Glasgow, Tayside, Fife, the Scottish Central Belt and the Highlands for larger installation projects. We also cover the North of England for planned maintenance and installation work.
Yes. We cover rural and more remote locations across Scotland, including Perthshire, Angus and the wider Tayside area. For businesses in more remote locations, we particularly recommend planned maintenance contracts — a return visit is a significant inconvenience, and regular preventive servicing reduces the likelihood of needing one.
Yes. We cover the North of England for planned maintenance and installation projects. Contact us with your location and requirements and we will confirm whether we can help.
For operators in Fife, Tayside, Edinburgh and the wider central Scotland area, we are among the closest commercial refrigeration companies available. For Fife specifically, as a Cupar-based business we are genuinely local — not a regional operator dispatching from the central belt. If you are unsure, call us and we will give you an honest answer.
